Civil aviation subject to franchise problems can be big or small

As one of the few “pre-legacy legacy” franchises, the development bottleneck of the civil aviation industry in Macau has once again attracted market attention. According to the industry, not only is the franchise model inconsistent with the world's development trend, but also the gambling and telecommunications industry is open to provide a good model. More importantly, the franchise model has “intentionally or unintentionally” jeopardized the healthy development of the local civil aviation industry. The living space of the airport may even jeopardize the great and diversified business of the Macao industry. The problem can be big or small.

Just as local industry officials severely criticized the franchise of the civil aviation industry for hindering market development, the United States and Japan reached a historic "open skies" agreement on the 11th. According to the analysis, this move will greatly reduce the restrictions on the civil aviation industry between the two countries, and will help promote the development of the aviation industry and protect the interests of consumers. According to the agreement reached between the two parties, the United States and Japan will cancel the current restrictions on the flight routes, destinations, shifts and even pricing of the airlines of the two countries, allowing the airlines of the two countries to select or adjust the flight routes and flight times according to market demand. Previously, the United States, the European Union, and Australia also signed a similar "open skies" agreement.

The analysis pointed out that the strength of the US and Japan aviation industry is not equal. The Japanese airlines perform less than half of the weekly flights in the United States. Opening up the market is obviously beneficial to the American industry. Therefore, if the Japanese civil aviation authorities want to protect the local industry, they will inevitably refuse to open the market. The fact is that the US and Japanese governments' focus on “open skies” can exacerbate competition and provide consumers with more choices. At the consumer level, this new development thinking may be worthy of reference by local governments and civil aviation operators. .

In fact, the airline industry in Macau has faced or will face the problem of unequal strength in the past and in the future. Because Macao is a small city after all, the civil aviation industry has only a history of more than ten years of development, and it is impossible to compare it with the counterparts of most cities and countries where it is possible to travel. In the past, the local civil aviation industry's practice was to limit the execution of flights by foreign airlines based on their flight capabilities. In the future, if this practice is still maintained, it is obviously not in line with the development goals of Macao as an international tourism city, nor can it adapt to the multi-development goals set by the state as an international leisure tourism center and promote the development of the convention and exhibition industry. How to solve it? Industry and government should establish consensus as soon as possible to completely resolve the development bottleneck caused by franchise and other industrial policies.

Just as the "open skies" of the United States and Japan have intensified competition, it will inevitably lead to the "combination of the two sides" of the aviation industry of the two countries and rewrite the current aviation industry pattern of the two countries. If Macao wants to develop into an international leisure and tourism center, it must have a matching aviation service industry. Whether it is inter-industry cooperation in the region or alliance with overseas counterparts should be encouraged. Otherwise, the local civil aviation industry will eventually be eliminated in regional and international competition even if it retains the local market.
